Nutella Chocolate Cake (Buttercream)

Ingredients


3 chocolate cakes (8 inch)

1/2 cup crushed hazel nuts

5-6 whole peeled hazel nut


For the Nutella Buttercream

4 cups icing sugar

1 cup Nutella

2 cups unsalted butter slightly chilled

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 tbsp heavy whipping cream


Method


  1. Combine butter and Nutella, beat on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes

  2. Add the sugar little at a time and beat for another 2-3 minutes

  3. Add remaining items for the buttercream, beat for 2 minutes till light and fluffy

  4. Use a wooden spoon and mix by hand to remove the air bubbles


Assembly of cake

  1. Spread a small amount of buttercream on a board

  2. Place first cake and spread 1/5 cup of the buttercream

  3. Place the second cake on top and spread with the 1/5 cup of buttercream

  4. Now stack the third cake, cover top and sides with the buttercream

  5. Spread buttercream using a palette knife to get a smooth finish

  6. Pipe a few swirls using a piping bag and top with whole nuts

  7. Add crushed nuts to the sides of the cake
